Come and join us for the 2004 Sloan Foundation Conference for Minority Ph.D., and Feeder Programs be held at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center in Greensboro,
North Carolina November 3 - 5, 2004. The conference, sponsored by Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, is being hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.

The main objective of the conference will be to review the mission of the Sloan Foundation in its support of underrepresented minority Ph.D.s in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) fields. Participants from both Sloan-funded universities and other support organizations will discuss issues, alternatives, and strategies available to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities in graduate programs.

Participants will also have the opportunity to network and collaborate with Sloan grantees, NACME, and other diversity focused alliances. In addition, representatives from NSF, NIH, AAAS and GEM will be invited to engage and share information at the conference.

What is the Zend Optimizer?

The Zend Optimizer is one of the most popular PHP plugins for performance-improvement, and has been available without charge, since the early days of PHP 4. It improves performance by scanning PHP's intermediate code and passing it through multiple Optimization Passes to replace inefficient code patterns with more efficient code blocks. The replaced code blocks perform exactly the same operations as the original code, only faster.

In addition to improving performance, the Zend Optimizer also enables PHP to transparently load files encoded by the Zend Guard.

The Zend Optimizer is a free product available for download from Zend Technologies. Zend Technologies also developed the PHP scripting engine, known as the Zend Engine.
